Polar Bear fur is hollow and some researches claim that it acts like fiber optic cables, transmitting light directly from the sun to the bears skin so that they can warm up. This is refuted by experiments carried out on the fur, as described here.
White furry insulation would normally be expected to insulate the bear from the sun and may help to prevent them from overheating on sunny days(?)
